Haraaz: where our coffee grows

The Al-Emadi family's farms around Jarmah, high in Yemen's Haraaz mountains, and how the harvest comes to Houston.

Every bag of Azora coffee comes from one place: the Al-Emadi family's farms around the village of Jarmah, in the Haraaz mountains of Yemen, about 100 km from Sana'a.

High terraces

The coffee grows on terraces between 1,800 and 2,460 metres (about 5,900 to 8,070 feet). At that height the cherries ripen slowly, which gives the beans more time to develop flavor.

Bringing coffee back

Since 2016 the Al-Emadi family has been bringing coffee back to Haraaz, replacing qat with coffee trees on their land.

The harvest

The harvest runs from October to March. Cherries are picked by hand when they're ripe, then dried whole in the sun on raised beds. After drying, every bean is sorted by hand.

From Jarmah to Houston

We direct-source one harvest from the family and bring it to Houston, Texas, where we ship it across the US. Houston customers can also pick up locally, free, Monday to Saturday.
